What I enjoyed most about playing Pokemon Go was that I logged almost 5,000 measures while playing. Yes, people do get a significant quantity of exercise while playing. But, folks are still glued to their telephones, obsessively staring at their phone screen looking for the next Pokemon.
For the past week or so, all I have seen on social media websites are folks posting about playing Pokemon Go. As the serious writer, I 'm, I desired to write an article about it. But of course, that would mean I 'd need to play. I did not desire to play this Pokemon game. I have never once in my life had the desire to play anything that has to do with Pokemon. For the sake of this article, though, I pitched all of those thoughts away and walked around for an hour and a half attempting to figure out this Pokemon craze.
The Pokemon card game is very popular with kids. Similarly, we get the stats on a Pokemon, and it is rather like a robot. But that is not so in the imagination. In the imagination it is something alive. And if we do something to it like allow it to be gleaming (glossy daikon cards), it becomes even more valuable and living. But the bottom line truth to all computer games is that they are robots. The question is this then: in a networking game like Second Life are you a robot? Will Pokemon ever become real?
It only doesn't make a lot of sense to me how extreme people got when I played. Go locate her!" Because all of a sudden, I'd see a group of four teenage boys running down the street, telephones in hand. Clearly, no. Those lads weren't after cash or Beyonce. They weren't after anything actual, anything with a real benefit or result, for that matter.
If the dream behind a game is strong enough, it can bring about spinoffs. Conversely, something that is popular like Ultraman can cause a game. But games generally remain games and toys stay playthings. Pokemon has seen quite good spinoff (though it is not taking the world by storm) because of its intriguing concept. This is where the robot is left behind, and the human imagination starts to reach out and explore.
I started by walking around downtown Springfield, Missouri, with a buddy. My buddy is quite into Pokemon Go. He has spent the last week walking around parks and sites throughout the city trying to catch strange virtual creatures. He attempted to teach me how.
The imagination is a funny thing. Geeks design and fight their 'bots' with a very powerful egotism: they designed the robot; they are comparing their skill against their adversary's. When a premise, or story, is put into a game that all changes. Pokemon are robots to be sure, but the user did not design them- computer game geeks did. So it becomes a fantasy world in which the object will be to obtain the best Pokemon that one can use it 'feature' to the best of one's ability. When losing, one can almost feel the Pokemon let him down, wasn't strong enough, or whatever. He may blame himself partly, but not entirely.
Pokemon enthusiasts through the entire world may shun me, but my conclusion is that I still do not understand the craze. I do not understand how people don't get bored with it after a few minutes and how they get so enthusiastic about comical-looking characters on an app. I don't understand why anyone would spend time on something foolish like Pokemon Go. That being said, it is not my place to tell the world to quit doing what they love. If you need to play, then play.
If a Pokemon appears, you need to throw a virtual Poke Ball at it to get it. Then you walk and walk and walk some more to catch more Pokemon. Apparently, you sometimes can steal Pokemon from other people and have conflicts with other users also. That part is over my head.
Not many are conscious of this maybe (or maybe you are!) but nearly every computer game we play is an application of robotic software technology. That is, the icons you see, and maneuver are application computer configurations with set parameters. It cannot go beyond those parameters simply because that's the limitation of its programming. Very often, actually, 'upgrading' does not include adding a new function to an existing entity, but instead merely replacing it in its entirety and downloading its memory from the game's database.
When you've tracked a Pokémon GO Poké Stop in Gladstone to no actions, that implies it's in your instant area: If you stand still for a couple of moments, your radar field should bring it out of hiding. No, you do not have to attempt and jump your neighbor's fence or run through graveyards to find wandering Pokémon-- your radar needs to expose them without any additional work on your part.
