What I liked most about playing Pokemon Go was that I logged nearly 5,000 measures while playing. Yes, folks do get a significant quantity of exercise while playing. But, folks are still glued to their phones, obsessively staring at their telephone display trying to find the next Pokemon.

For the previous week or so, all I've seen on social media sites are people posting about playing Pokemon Go. As the avid writer, I am, I wanted to compose an article about it. But of course, that would mean I 'd need to play. I didn't want to play this Pokemon game. I 've never once in my life had the want to play anything that has to do with Pokemon. For the sake of this article, however, I tossed all of those thoughts aside and walked around for an hour and a half attempting to figure out this Pokemon craze.

The Pokemon card game is very popular with kids. You may not believe that that has anything at all to do with robots, but if you let your logic go a little 'fuzzy' I believe we can find robotic concepts in all life- that in fact machines were meant to replace things people do and robot 'humanizes' the machine even more because of broader parameters. So we can speak of a baseball player as a robot (pitches this rapid, had this many hits, weighs this much, is this tall, etc.) and trade cards. Similarly, we get the stats on a Pokemon, and it is rather like a robot. But that's not so in the imagination. In the imagination it's something alive. And if we do something to it like ensure it is glossy (glistening daikon cards), it becomes even more valuable and living. But the bottom line truth to all computer games is they are robots. The question is this then: in a networking game like Second Life are you a robot?

It just doesn't make a lot of sense to me how extreme people got when I played. It's almost like the hundreds of people in downtown Springfield, Missouri, had viewed a tweet saying, "There're a thousand dollars somewhere downtown, go find it!" or "Beyonce is in downtown Springfield. Go locate her!" Because all of a sudden, I'd see a group of four teenaged boys running down the street, phones in hand. Obviously, no. Those lads were not after cash or Beyonce. They were not after anything real, anything with a real benefit or outcome, for that matter.

If the fantasy behind a game is powerful enough, it can result in spinoffs. Conversely, something that's popular like Ultraman can cause a game. But games typically remain games and toys stay toys. Pokemon has seen very good spinoff (though it is not taking the world by storm) because of its interesting theory. This is where the robot is left behind, and the human imagination begins to reach out and explore.

I started by walking around downtown Springfield, Missouri, with a buddy. My friend is quite into Pokemon Go. He's spent the last week walking around parks and sites through the city attempting to get strange virtual creatures. He tried to teach me how.

The first Pokemon game ported to Game Boy as 'Pocket Monsters' was a pretty simple and normal 'fighting bot' game that became popular. Geeks design and fight their 'bots' with an extremely strong ego: they designed the robot; they're comparing their skill against their adversary's. When a assumption, or story, is put into a game that all changes. Pokemon are robots to be sure, but the user did not design them- computer game geeks did. So it becomes a fantasy world where the object is really to obtain the best Pokemon that one can use it 'feature' to the best of one's ability. When losing, one can nearly believe that the Pokemon let him down, was not powerful enough, or whatever. He may blame himself partially, but not fully.

Pokemon enthusiasts through the world may shun me, but my conclusion is that I still don't understand the craze. I don't comprehend how people do not get bored with it after a few minutes and how they get so enthusiastic about comical-looking characters on an app. I do not comprehend why anyone would spend time on something foolish like Pokemon Go. That said, it is not my place to tell the world to stop doing what they love. If you want to play, then play. But I, for one, will not.

If a Pokemon appears, you need to throw a virtual Poke Ball at it to capture it. Then you certainly walk and walk and walk some more to get more Pokemon. Seemingly, you occasionally can snitch Pokemon from others and have conflicts with other users also. That component is over my head.

Not many are aware of this perhaps (or perhaps you're!) but nearly every computer game we play is an use of robotic software technology. That is, the icons you see, and play are software computer configurations with set parameters. It cannot go beyond those parameters only because that is the limit of its programming. Very often, actually, 'updating' doesn't include adding a new function to an existing thing, but rather just replacing it in its entirety and downloading its memory from the game's database.

No, you do not have to attempt and leap your next-door neighbor's fence or run through graveyards to discover roaming Pokémon-- your radar ought to expose them without any extra work on your part.
